Shay grew up with young, unbroke or breeding stock. With an extensive history of handling colts she has a great understanding of youngsters and loves working with them to this day. She learned to ride at a young age on her fathers stallion and quickly had the notion of doing more than trail riding around home. By the age of 10 Shay had found herself showing at local WSCA horse shows and running flat races held at the local fairs. By the age of 16 she had made her way through a list of accomplishments at Flat Racing, Pleasure, Halter, Team Penning and Games. Along with that she also had a number of colts trained, proven and sold. Soon to come was the world of jackpot barrel racing. shay set her goals to join and compete in the larger events but had to get schooling behind her first. After attending school in Texas she returned to Minnesota and started to pursue her dreams, one step at a time and that it was she did. she trained, competed, traveled and was working her way through the larger events in the midwest. Just prior to having her dreams stopped dead in there tracks, the pair were chasing greats like Tanya and hotshot, clocking under 1/2 second behind them with plenty of room for improvement! spirits were high and their dreams coming into a clear focus. clocking that time behind Tanya would prove to the last actual competition run that the team would make, atleast for some time! Due to injuries to both horse and rider, the pair was forced to stop competing in 2006. Shay tried to get out a few times since the injury but is hoping that 2009 will be the year she actually gets back out there. We are excited to say that the pair made it out to one show last fall just before the snow hit and with Limited conditioning, a lot of extra pounds between the two, they found themselves sitting in 2nd place. 2009 will be a focal point for getting back into the sport and training/seasoning prospects.
Mark grew up here in MN and always had a bit of a desire to farm, to live in the country. His life changed drastically in 2001 when he met Shay and his country living became a reality. Before long Mark was training his own horses and wanted to dabble in other areas of the horse world as well. He began to build a breeding program, started to buy and sell horses, always learning and very adaptable to the horse industry. He has since gotten out of the buying and selling and sold all but one broodmare. throughout the years he was forming an interest in trimming, always learning and talking with farriers and other veterans in the field. he began trimming our horses and had gained several years of experience before deciding to pursue those interests further. Mark is currently taking appropriate measures and becoming a certified farrier, he will start building a client base in the spring of 2009. Mark has a gentle approach with the horses and has a great talent for trimming/balancing a horse. 2009 will also kick off another venture that Shay would like to pursue, taking what she has learned over the yeas and sharing it with others! she is offering barrel training and lessons to beginner or intermediate level riders. Though she has taken a horse or two in over years, this will be the first time she will actually offer these services to the public. 2009 will be the start of something new and exciting for both of them. |
